Menomonee Falls - Village Employees have recently contacted Village President Candidate Jefferson E. Davis about various Village issues that they feel need to be immediately addressed to save the taxpayer's money and to have better Village Policy in many areas of Village Government.
The election for the Menomonee Falls Village President's Race is Tuesday, April 7th. Davis is being challenged for the open seat by Trustee Randy Newman as the current Village President is stepping down after 4 years.
In asking for the immediate spending and hiring freeze along with a 5%, 3 year phased in property tax levy reduction Davis said,
"I am thankful that Village Employees approached me about issues they feel need to be addressed for proper Village policy and for ways to save the taxpayers more of their hard earned money.
Those employees who are closest to the operations of government are often shut out of the process and yet have the best ideas as they are the ones who have to make the Board Policy work at the ground level.
I value input from the employees. Menomonee Falls, for the most part, has a really good group of hard working employees with good ideas and cost saving suggestions.
The employees who have contacted me have brought to my attention the following three areas, amongst many that exist, where cost savings could be implemented:
-
Village Health Care Plan that has the family premium at $1,700 a month or $20,400 a year for a family plan without any options to be considered that could save money.
-
A $700,000 radio program for the Village Fleet that are working fine now and with minor changes would be suffice until more vendors could be consulted.
-
An Administration Meeting where staff was told by the lead Administrator to hurry up and spend the leftover 25% of their budgets before the end of the year or else they wouldn't get as much for the next year's budget.
I believe there needs to be an immediate policy adopted by the Board to freeze spending and hiring except for essential services which taxpayers expect.
This freeze should be in effect until the severe recessionary times that we are currently experiencing lift.
Homeowners and business people need tax relief right now and my 5%, 3 year phased in tax levy reduction plan will do just that.
There are many ways in addition to what the employees have already suggested that can be done that will also lead to cost savings and a reduction in taxes for homeowners and business people.
I have the background of having to freeze government spending and hiring when I was an public service administrator for 10 years during the severe recession of the '80's.
I also have the background of cutting property taxes for the only time in the history of our Village in 2003 during the most recent recession when we successfully passed a three year property tax levy freeze.
Let's get Menomonee Falls out of the Top 10 Worst Taxed Communities in Waukesha County according to the most recent county survey from 2008."
The Davis for President Volunteer Campaign will be having Voter V.I.P. (Voter Input Program) Meetings at John Harbor's Public Coffee House (N88 W16521 Main St.) in downtown Menomonee Falls as follows:
Saturday March 21st and 28th 9:30-11:00 A.M.
Wednesday March 25th 7:00-9:00 P.M.
The public is invited to attend to ask any question they wish without any time limits, editing or filtering.
